In the summer of 2001, a seven year old girl named Mily trips head-first into a patch of Pitcher's thistle. She loses almost all her marbles from the fall, and winds up with magic bugs in her brain. The bugs, which Mily and her friends call ‘Clairs,’ grant her various clairvoyances—giving Mily a higher sense of awareness in her everyday life. Knowing no one would believe her, she keeps it a secret from the grown-ups. A global turn of events cloisters Mily and her family underground, far away from any thistle plants. There, in the Land of Far-Fetched, the Clairs reveal their true purpose for Mily.
